Acupuncture for Depression

Wow! I knew that acupuncture helps relieve depression but I just learned that it also regulates gene expression relating to the disorder. That’s very specific, high tech information!

Although anti-depressant drugs are the “front-line treatment" in primary care, 60% of patients do not respond adequately. Current researchers investigated acupuncture as a possible non-pharmacological, adjunct therapy to primary care for such people.

Not surprisingly, they found that acupuncture causes a significant reduction in symptoms of depression in the short to medium term.

Acupuncture treatment also is not associated with serious adverse side effects.

The results demonstrate that acupuncture is both safe and effective for patients with depression.
